Powell County

The northwestern corner on Washington County, centered around the Fall Branch community, became the focal point of an attempt to form a new county, In 1821, citizens of the northwestern portion of Washington County, the northeastern portion of Greene County, southeastern portion of Hawkins County and southwestern portion of Sullivan County petitioned the Tennessee legislature to form the above mentioned sections of these counties into a new county.
 
Some of the Washington County residents living inside the proposed limits of Powell County were: Among many others, which I will not list are: Benjamin Archer and Levi Archer
