ARCHERS IN THE U.S. CENSUS

The U.S. Census is a basic tool of research but is often difficult to use because of the unavailability of indexes, cost of microfilm purchase, distance from microfilm, etc. To provide access to this important source we will publish on a continuing basis the U.S. Census listings of>anyone named Archer and others who are believed to be Archer due to similar or variant spellings.

Readers are asked to submit census readings, preferably Xeroxed or hand copied from the microfilm or census rather than from a published copy of the census. There are many transcription errors and omissions in indexes and published copes. If you have searched a census line by line (not an index search) and did not find any Archers, please let us know so we can eliminate that township or area from our list of censuses to be searched.

Unless otherwise noted the names below were taken from the indexes to the "Heads of Families at the First Census of the United States Taken in the Year 1790", Dept of Commerce & Labor, Bureau of the Census; GPO: Washington, D.C., 1907-1908. This is not a page-by-page review of the entire 1790 U.S. Census
